MEOTINE encourages its suppliers to commit to the certification system. Our strategy aims at even tighter integration of certification into the MEOTINE Fur brand. Our company now offers raccoon and fox collections coming exclusively from certified SAGA farms.

Fur by Saga supports the Farm Certification project established by The Finnish Fur Breeders’ Association (STKL) in 2005. Farm Certification requires documentation and continuous development of breeding standards above those contained in European legislation.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL:

None of MEOTINE. fur or leather styles are trapped wild animals. It is worth to remember that the majority of animals trapped are not for fur but for pest or environmental control. Even so, nowadays as part of the Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards (AIHTS) which the fur trade worked to help establish, all traps used for any reason must reach a humane standard which, depending on the species, requies the animal to be killed outright and quickly. Trap lines must be visited within a day of being set. MEOTINE has already implemented the AIHTS.

All farming activities take place on the farm, limiting the need for transportation of the animals and thus reducing the production of CO2 to a minimum. Furthermore, the by-products of fur farming itself are used. Animal fats from mink are used in the production of bio-diesel. The rest is fully utilised for C02 neutral energy, as fertilisers for growing crops and for cement production, etc. Fur animal feed, for instance, uses by-products from the fish and meat industries. By-products that would otherwise be disposed of.

 

PRODUCTION

MEOTINE. is committed to ensuring that working conditions in MEOTINE.’s supply chain are safe, that workers are treated with respect and dignity, and that the manufacturing processes is environmentally responsible. MEOTINE.’s suppliers should commit to operate in full compliance with the laws, rules, and regulations of the countries in which they operate.

MEOTINE. may visit (and/or have external monitors visit) Supplier facilities, with or without notice, to assess compliance with this Code. Violations of this Code may result in immediate termination as a MEOTINE. Supplier and in legal action. Labor and Human Rights MEOTINE. suppliers must uphold the human rights of workers, and treat them with dignity and respect as understood by the international community.

Child labor is strictly prohibited. Suppliers shall not employ children. The minimum age for employment or work shall be 18 years of age, the minimum age for employment in that country, or the age for completing compulsory education in that country, whichever is higher. This Code does not prohibit participation in legitimate workplace apprenticeship programs that are consistent with Article 6 of ILO Minimum Age Convention No. 138 or light work consistent with Article 7 of ILO Minimum Age Convention No. 138.
